They are back!

The dragonflies are back.  They make me smile.  I haven’t started taking pictures yet.  My camera quality is a bit embarrassing.  I picked this one from the internet.  : (

It took Spring a long time to get here, but it is making up for it now.  I put a hummingbird feeder out and there was one within five minutes.  The frogs, toads, skinks, and snakes are out.  I have seen some turtles basking, but I haven’t had to move any off the road yet.

The daffodils are beautiful this year and my perennials are coming up.  The trees are starting to get leaves and the dogwoods are just beginning to bloom.  I try not to complain about Winter, but I am ready for Spring!

That is most difficult.” William Butler Yeats

Haikus:

Vultures in the sky.

Cloudless day for flying low.

Black against the blue.

A monarch flew by.

Why is it here in the cold?

Please find your way homeward soon.

It is hard to believe it has been two months since the monarchs emerged.

Chill

“Gie me a spark o’ nature’s fire,

That’s a’ the learning I desire.” ~Robert Burns ~

Again, this is not one of my pictures.  I think it is beautiful.  Dragonflies and spiders – what could be better?!  It’s like getting peanut butter in my chocolate!

Cooler weather is here.  That’s good and bad.  I don’t have to sweat every time I walk out the door, but I will miss the summer insects, spiders, and plants.  I find them to be amazing.  At least I can look forward to the spring.

Dragons that Fly

“Most human beings have an absolute and infinite capacity for taking things for granted.” ~ Aldous Huxley ~

This is not one of my pictures.  Pretty.  I can’t recall ever having seen one like this.

We got through Hurricane/Tropical Storm Michael.  We had no power for a couple of days, but I won’t complain about that considering what others have dealt with recently.  I try not to take things for granted and to be grateful for what I do have.  Things can be better, but they can also be worse.  It can be hard to remember that sometimes.  Gratitude journals do help you refocus on what is important.

Caterpillars

The Monarchs did well, then it was time for the Black Swallowtails.  Most have gone off to pupate and the rest are in a butterfly habitat to protect them from Hurricane Florence.  There have been a lot of interesting caterpillars this year.

Monarchs

The Monarch babies did really well this year.  My son and I are so glad when they emerge from their chrysalis and fly off to rest in the trees.  They don’t stay very long.  It’s already migration time.  Either they will make it to Mexico or their children will.  It makes us feel good that we can be a part of that, and we are grateful that we can help in a small way.  I will need more milkweed next year.  They cleaned us out this year – a good thing.

It’s hard to believe that summer is ending and school starts tomorrow.  I’m not a cold weather person, but I sure won’t miss the deer flies.  I will miss the dragonflies.

Laughing Dragonfly

Kind of like laughing Buddha, only cuter.

“If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.” ~Marcel Proust~

It looks like I post the same dragonfly over and over, but they are different ones.  I can tell them apart.  No, I’m not kidding.   :^)

No one has commented on my bad poetry, so maybe I should give it a rest.

I know I’m not very good at it, but I’m trying.  :^ (
