Monarchs

The Monarch babies did really well this year.  My son and I are so glad when they emerge from their chrysalis and fly off to rest in the trees.  They don’t stay very long.  It’s already migration time.  Either they will make it to Mexico or their children will.  It makes us feel good that we can be a part of that, and we are grateful that we can help in a small way.  I will need more milkweed next year.  They cleaned us out this year – a good thing.

It’s hard to believe that summer is ending and school starts tomorrow.  I’m not a cold weather person, but I sure won’t miss the deer flies.  I will miss the dragonflies.

Laughing Dragonfly

Kind of like laughing Buddha, only cuter.

“If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.” ~Marcel Proust~

It looks like I post the same dragonfly over and over, but they are different ones.  I can tell them apart.  No, I’m not kidding.   :^)

No one has commented on my bad poetry, so maybe I should give it a rest.

I know I’m not very good at it, but I’m trying.  :^ (

To a Narcissist

Why did you take my heart?

It wasn’t what you wanted.

You said you loved me.

And I believed you.

Now you say you never loved me.

And I believe you.

I didn’t want to make waves.

You used that to drown me.

Giving me enough air to keep me alive.

Taking it away to keep me under control.

It doesn’t matter either way.

You’ve made yourself clear.

I no longer let you feed on my soul.

You have others for that now.

I gave you my past.

The future is mine.

I, Dragonfly

“It’s not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.” ~ Sir Edmund Hillary ~

I had my annual recheck for Cushing’s Disease today.  I don’t dwell on it, but it is a relief to know I’m okay.  At least if it comes again I will get it taken care of right away instead of being misdiagnosed for nine years.  :^(  I guess it was a case of better late than never.  The dragonflies will keep me smiling.  Always.  My symbol of new beginnings.

Dragonfly, Skink, and Frog – Oh My!

“There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as though everything is a miracle.” ~ Albert Einstein ~

Prince Charming came back.  I had missed him.   It’s raining again today, so he is probably content.  The dragonflies won’t like it though.

Start out small.

“I was taught that the way of progress is neither swift nor easy.” ~Marie Curie ~

Kind of like the time it takes for radioactive decay?  8^)

I like snails and this one likes goldenrod.  The crab spider is so little!  It likes the hummingbird mint.  Both are patient with the process of life.

There are no honeybees here this summer.  It was a bad winter for the hives.

Hi there!

I love dragonflies.  Squash bugs – not so much.  I had beautiful, healthy squash plants; now I don’t.  My cucumber plants have all succumbed to the juggernaut of hungry squash bugs.  Now they are lurking on my tomatoes.  I would like to say there is Sevin dust in their future, but I won’t use pesticides.  They don’t know how lucky they are.  :^(

I wish dragonflies ate squash bugs.
